80 @ 80
October 14 - December 31, 2011
Since the Addison Gallery opened to the public in 1931, the museum has included the work of hundreds of artists in over 1,300 exhibitions. In honor of the museum’s 80th anniversary, 80 @ 80 presents objects by about eighty artists drawn from the Addison’s permanent collection. Featuring works in all media from the eighteenth century to the present, 80 @ 80 celebrates the range and depth of the collection—from well-loved favorites by artists such as Winslow Homer, Thomas Eakins, and John Singer Sargent whose work first graced the Addison’s walls upon its 1931 opening, to twentieth-century treasures by Edward Hopper, Louise Nevelson, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Frank Stella, to exciting recent acquisitions of works by colonial silversmith Jacob Hurd, contemporary artists Jennifer Bartlett and Mark Bradford, to name a few.
Generous support for 80 @ 80 has been provided by the Sidney R. Knafel fund.
