Christine Jee named Museum Educator of the Year

Christine Jee, Education Associate for School and Community Collaborations at the Addison​, has been named 2019​ ​Museum Education Art Educator of the Year by the Massachusetts Art Education Association (MAEA).

MAEA presents the Museum Education Art Educator of the Year award ​​to a model museum art educator and current MAEA member who deserves recognition for outstanding museum instruction and advocacy in the arts throughout Massachusetts. ​​​

In nominating Christine for the award, Ruth Zaimes, Project Director of the New England Arts for Literacy program with Andover Public Schools, noted, "Christine is personally and professionally committed to teachers and students. She is a first-rate collaborator working across districts and disciplines to provide arts-integrated museum experiences that extend classroom learning. Her work has elevated the critical role museums provide as places that enrich learning through lived experiences infused with a sense of wonder and curiosity." ​

At the Addison, Christine works closely with elementary through college-level educators in designing and facilitating personalized museum visits to connect their curricula with the Addison's ​exhibitions and collection. She is especially passionate about fostering relationships and offering support by thoughtfully using art as inspiration so that both students and teachers can flourish. Christine also develops and facilitates professional development, programs for family audiences, and collaborations with local community organizations who visit the museum. Christine holds a B.S. in Elementary Education at from Boston University and an M.Ed. in Arts in Education at from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Prior to working at the Addison, she was a former an elementary teacher in Lawrence, MA, where she made it a priority to create meaningful interdisciplinary arts experiences for her students in her own classroom.​
