Addison Partners with For Freedoms
What is your definition of freedom?
The Addison is proud to join the For Freedoms project. Inspired by American artist Norman Rockwell’s paintings of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms (1941)—freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear—For Freedoms’ programs use art as vehicle for participation to deepen public discussions on civic issues and core values. For Freedoms was founded by artists Eric Gottesman (PA class of 1994) and Hank Willis Thomas.
Beginning with a kickoff event on Wednesday, October 24, the Addison invites the community to produce and publicly display their own definitions of freedom by completing statements on lawn signs that begin with “Freedom of,” “Freedom to,” “Freedom for,” and Freedom from.” Drop by any time from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm to participate. The event is free and all materials will be provided.
Signs will continue to be available after the event at the Visitor Services desk until they run out. As they are completed, the signs will be displayed outside the Addison through Election Day, Tuesday, November 6.
